Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 75.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.3.

A brilliant album from start to finish. For being a mostly stream-of-consciousness effort, the lyrics are so sharp (and often humorous). And Tom Dowse's guitar work is nothing short of spectacular. I've probably listened to this record a few dozen times and I still keep finding myself coming back to it. There's something special about the way Florence's deadpan-style vocals blend with the music.
Awesome stream-of-consciousness post-punk album. Vocalist Florence Shaw's honest and often times hilarious poetry and dispassionate indifference makes Dry Cleaning stand out from their peers.
Things are changing. A tiresome swim in a pointless sea. Do everything and feel nothing. Shane has joined the chat. Too much to ask about so don't ask. Huge white geese please us all. Now it seems like none of that meant anything.
A wonderfully refreshing album. This band has character and uniqueness, and displays them brilliantly. This is one of the best albums of the year and I’ll be anxiously awaiting what they do next.
Probably the ugliest album cover - and album title - I've ever seen.
Perfectly in sync four piece band whose members each do more than hold their own. The fantastically uncaring vocals (and lyrics) make the album a unique experience. Really great stuff.
Probably gonna be best album of 2021 for me.
Enjoyable enough post punk spoken word style that wears out its uniqueness after a few spins
As Morrissey said: : “That joke isn’t funny anymore “
Post-punk seems to be everywhere right now, I have mixed feelings about its boom to be honest.
When it comes to New Long Leg, I found it highly enjoyable. No matter how obvious some of the influences are - Joy Division, The Fall, Sonic Youth - they are super cool nonetheless.
I would actually rank it as about equal to For The First Time, which seems to be the post-punk album of the year so far. The former was more on the entertaining side, the latter more creative/challenging, but overall both were between good and very good.
Compelling listening. Something about the vocal just draws you in. It's almost unnerving. Good stuff.
What an incredible year for British Post-Punk and experimental music. A stunning mixture of cryptical but heartfelt, intimate spoken word and hypnotic, trance-like, Joy Division infused instrumentals.
To say any more wouldnt do it justice, and quite frankly Mercury has summed this up perfectly. Wonderful, WONDERFUL album!!!
