“Warm Chris” is carried by Harding’s vocal skill. She switches between gentle whispers, cartoonish repeats, and soulful croons with ease. The different styles keep the album surprising and make the songs feel their own. Unfortunately, the instrumentals fall into much more predictable coffee shop fodder. The quiet strings and brass are too understated and can border on sleepy. If given matching instrumental range, Harding’s voice could have really soared.

There’s definitely a touch of poor mans Fiona Apple going on here, regardless its another wonderful release for NZ’s best female artist (yes Harding has Lorde covered)
Definitely not quite up to the high standard Harding set on her last outing, 2019’s ‘Designer’, yet ‘Warm Chris’ is still an engaging listen with a strong sonic palette and tracks that lean into vintage sixties/ seventies pop/ rock.

Aldous is now making definite pop music, but there's still intrigue in some of the songs here, especially deep cuts like "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain." Another solid album if not a little sleepy, but that was the problem last time too.
