I didn't hear this album until many years after it had become synonymous with "disappointing second album", and enough of a punchline to turn up in the record-throwing scene in Shaun of the Dead.
And no, it's not as good as the self-titled. But I am fond of it! And I really love the three big guitar-focused tracks, Breaking Into Heaven, Driving South and Love Spreads. (John Squire in OTT blues rock mode > John Squire in jangle mode.)

It took me some time, now I'm ready to change my opinion about this album, I now love it, (except the hidden track). Tears is an amazing song.

Less bad than it's given credit for, pales in comparison to what came before tho.
Although I liked a lot of the tracks on this album it is not near the level of their debut. It just is an average album.
A truly disappointing sophomore album. Such promise with their debut album and their singles. Despite that, the band redeem themselves with the final track, "Love Spreads".

Tears, Love Spreads and Ten Story Love song are great tracks, the rest I don't need to hear again. The 'hidden' track number 90 needs to be better hidden because no-one needs it.

The lyrics are pretty bad, the vocal delivery is uninspired, and the instrumental jams are derivative at times. The Stone Roses have proven they could do better, and this is certainly very far from their abilities. Not sure why so many are determined to defend it.

Not a brilliant album, but fun enough, though in comparison to the debut this is disappointing. ‘Love Spreads’ is good, but my favourite is ‘How Do You Sleep’.

The guitar work on this album is fantastic-outranks the debut in that category. A great album in all means-not sure why it's rated so low on this site, it may take a while for it to "click."
