An unusual album that I discovered in a music re-sale shop. The material contained on the album was recorded by these two titans of Jazz back in 1958 and 1959. I am unclear if it was ever released at that time. Eventually, from what I have been able to gather, the Philips Label compiled and consolidated the divergent recordings and compiled them on a single disc to release in Germany back in 1985 (
Philips – 822 566-2). The album can be further verified at discogs.com.
Both Davis and Blakey's combo are in fine form on their respective portions of the album. Davis' horn shows restraint yet burns away when necessary and Blakey's ensemble meshes very well with the material.
