Stephin Merritt has been doing music with The Magnetic Fields for a long time, over 30 years in fact, and 50 Song Memoir shows that he's still got it. This is an ambitious piece, but so was 69 Love Songs, and he did that very well. This is an autobiographical piece for Merritt and it's honestly only something he could write. It's very open and honest, well-written lyrically and musically. If you got through 69 Love Songs and liked it, you'll enjoy this.

Psych rock often blends blues and psychedelic elements into one thing. All Them Witches do that, but they prescribe to neither traditional blues nor traditional psychedelia. This isn't your standard blues music, rather it's blues that's covered in anxiety and fear. And this isn't traditional psychedelia that aims to take you to another world, rather it's rooted in reality and exhilarating. This album can be a bit of a slow burn, but it's one well worth trying out, as it's a rewarding experience.

Wear Your Wounds build an emotionally evocative, heavy album that ebbs and flows well between big and small, loud and quiet, making it an album that effectively displays both rage and pain. The album never comes off to cliched or anything, and the lyrics are fairly well-written as well. Overall it's an interesting listen and a metal album that definitely stands out.

Woe To The Vanquished is nothing new in the world of thrash metal. It comes in on the wave of retro-thrash that throws back the genre's heyday of the 80s and 90s, but just because it isn't new doesn't mean it isn't good. Warbringer come at this album with speed and with force, it's an album that kicks off in a high gear and keeps it running til it's done. The songs are tight, they're made well, and it's an overall enjoyable thrash album.

"Semper Femina" is an album about women, by a woman. There's nothing about men on this album, though not to say it attacks men or anything, they're just not here. Laura Marling has always been a strong songwriter and has consistently put out solid folk albums, and "Semper Femina" is yet another good album from her. This is an elegant, intimate, complex album, and is more proof that Laura Marling is one of the better folk musicians out there.

Nightmare Logic kicks off in a rage and never stops. It's a constantly powering forward metal album that doesn't play games or have any illusions as to what it is. The album is full of anger, both musically and lyrically, and it's a fun album. The instrumentation is really solid, it rarely gets boring as it's well-balanced, and the guitar-work is especially awesome. This is just a fun, straightforward metal album that falls somewhere in between thrash, hardcore, and punk.

The Necks have this experimental, jazzy improv feel going on, and it's fascinating. This album is only four tracks, but each track is a long, expansive work. Each track on Unfold is its own unique idea, its own concept. From the power of tracks like "Rise" and "Blue Mountain" to a more minimalistic psych feel in "Overhear", The Necks cover it all and do it well.

On this album, Kehlani just lays it all out there. I mean, she lays out her baggage completely, for everyone to see, and it comes across as very genuine. The production on this album is smooth and well done, and the lyrics are solid. Kehlani is able to be vulnerable and open without seeming weak. She can lay her heart out there, but she'll assure you that she can handle it and that she's strong enough to move on. It's an album of yearning but with an underlying theme of "I may be in pain, but I can make it through this"
