As much as I have come to appreciate so much of Miles' catalog, including actually holding some of his albums in higher esteem than their reputation would indicate, this is one I just can't get into to the level of praise it receives. To my ear, Miles and Spain don't gel so well. Good album, but nowhere near as good as its rep.
I have to say that Sketches of Spain is nearly tied with Kind of Blue for my favorite Davis album (with Bitches Brew not far behind). The arrangements on the first half of Sketches of Spain are truly fantastic. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
