Listened to this one recently for the first time in a while. Still awesome. A handful of Purple's trademark songs are on there. _________________ Check out some of my other interest on my own review site. Scum N' Villainy

Still just such a fucking solid record. Notable performances from everyone in the band and a great example of full band chemistry. My favorite Deep Purple record and one of my favorites of the era. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Easily Purple's definitive album. The convergence of the greatest version of the group producing their best material. The all time classic cuts supported by excellent deep cute. No weaknesses.

Classic
Now, my to go version is the 97 Roger Glover remix of the album
IMHO, SOTW is the low point of the album

Best album of this lineup, while I still like Burn more when all DP albums are considered. Still, I don't think any of their albums is a masterpiece, instrumentally they are all among the very best ever, but never liked Gillan's voice and songwriting has always been so and so.
Oh, and I consider When A Blind Man Cries to be a part of this album, since it fits well at the end and is the better than any other song on the album. _________________ All time

I must add a full actual mention of Ian Paice on drums. Dude is one of the most overlooked giants of the instrument ever. Bonham, Moon, Ginger Baker, and Mitch Mitchell get so much praise and of course they deserve every bit of it. But if I was to add a fifth member to the supposed starting five of classic rock drumming, Ian is right there with them. Like all the other phenomenal drum icons I mentioned, Ian's playing and the impact of it can be felt in the mammoth grooves and limit-pushing speed of his singles and paradiddles of the generations of drummers to come.
Next time you listen to this album or any of their stuff for that matter, give the drums (and other percussion in a lot of cases) a well deserved closer listen. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

This album has always been my best feep purple album without a doubt. I love turning it up loud to Smoke on the Water. I believe Smoke on the Water today sound even better than it did when it came out .. they made a lot of great albums but this certainly is their best work. The album was huge here, in Canada.
