I know next to nothing about Slade other than the fact that they show up at Christmas every year.
This is a bit of a banger actually, I've been listening to it for the evening and find it getting stuck in my head more and more, who knew.
Guess I'll have to dig deeper into Slade...

Slade. Now here's a band that really did not work in America. At all. Their biggest hit in almost 50 years was...a Christmas song.
And yet...they somehow gained a strange level of popularity here. The reason is that the early American hair metal band Quiet Riot covered a pair of their songs in the 80's and had hits with them. "Cum On Feel The Noize", and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now". The result is that Slade was responsible for two not so great things in American music:
1) The popularity of Quiet Riot. Two of their three hits were Slade songs. They were important as an early Hollywood live act, but truth is, they weren't all that good on their own. They had one good song in them, which was "Metal Health". Without Slade, Quiet Riot would have taken their place as an 80's metal footnote...which is what they really did deserve.
2) Those two songs made it "cool" for 80's American hair metal bands to mispell their song titles. Which was never cool at all...it only made them appear less intelligent, and ultimately, taken less seriously. Slade had a number one hit in the UK called "Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me". Sorry. Y'all got a lot right in music that Americans missed out on. Slade was not one of them.
Slade wasn't an 80's band at all, really. They formed in the mid 60's, and were far too British for American audiences to ever embrace. Except for their songs covered by Quiet Riot. Even that didn't make them stars here for more than a week at best.
"Run Runaway" was really their only American hit. It wasn't enough for them to gain any footing here. Kind of a cheap version of Big Country. With really weird video acting. _________________ Musicians play gigs.

Cheers for that, real interesting insight and makes a lot of sense for sure why they weren't bigger!
Don't know what to make of this one, one I feel that's definitely here purely due to the name.
It's good enough to make the list for now but definitely far from my favourite McCartney track.
Anyway, tomorrow brings us to Now 3...
