To this day, no album has shocked me as this one, along with Midori's first two LPs.
That very creative part in music is extremely rare!
I also like Doolittle's use of numbers:
"If man is 5"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀| 5. Here Comes Your Man
"then the devil is 6"⠀⠀| 6. Dead
"then god is 7"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ | 7. Monkey Gone to Heaven

Absolutely 👍
Obviously the numbers 5, 6 & 7 appear on the album cover along with a monkey with a halo, and there's even the "tattooed t*t saying no. 13" at the bottom-right corner.
Also the use of numbers partly alludes to biblical numerology: 7 is something holy, godly, perfect, complete etc. 6 alludes to "666" which is the number of the beast, and 13 is something usually unlucky etc. 5 perhaps just refers to the five fingers humans have in each hand (and maybe also five toes in each foot).
Gouge Away refers to the story of Samson and Delilah from the old testament, and Dead refers to the story of David and Batsheba.
There are also recurring themes like oceans, disasters, s*x, Spanish and maybe even more.
The album's inner artwork features several still-life photos that their objects all together allude to some songs' lyrics.

I only appreciate this album more as I come back to it every once in a while. Hits hard. Monkey Gone To Heaven is one of their very best tracks. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
