Who would've guessed that an unhinged gothic rocker would record one of the most gorgeous selections of ballads ever released? Listening now, and it's one of his unimpeachable masterpieces. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

One of the first Nick Cave albums I listened to and one of the main reasons I fell in love with them. With that said don't let its ranking on this site as their top album fool you. There's an album out there to suit everyones' taste and while this one makes a claim for being their best so do at least 5 or 6 others.

That's the great thing. Everyone has a different favorite. I love Henry's Dream but it's lucky to make my top 10 and that just shows the consistency, at least in my opinion. I'd love to know your full ranking of their discography.

Yeah. I'm personally in favor of Let Love In and Your Funeral...My Trial, but Cave's just been incredibly consistent for decades. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I mean, it's got a nice sound to it, but just doesn't seem creative enough to me to justify it's rank on this site.

I remember buying it back then and being hugely disappointed. I preferred the creepy/murder blues atmosphere of his earlier works and this set of ballads just did nothing for me. Suppose it wasn't a right album for a teenager, so I might give it a re-listen some time soon. _________________ Always shouts out something obscene

Agree with the comments about consistency. Cannot think of a solo artist with a 30 + year career whose never released a dud record though The Firstborn is Dead went close. Lyre of Orpheous/ Abbatoir Blues l think is marginally his best but little seperates a number of albums. Your Funeral My Trial, Boatman's Call, The Good Son, Henry's Dream and Let Love in
are all thereabouts
