The year before my family moved to a very rural area, I have recollection of this being the HUGEST album ever among my peers. Everybody had it, played it, and talked about it. It was the one album everyone had to have (more girls than boys though). I wasn't all that keen on it myself and wondered what all the fuss was about. Years later, I realized what a dense collection of truly great, but varied songs it was. It's hard not to think of this album first when the word "classic" gets bandied about.

Man, it's not even the best Mac soft rock album. 'Dreams' is their best song though. I was wavy as fuck in an Uber going to my friend's wedding last summer and it came on the radio and god damn it was perfect.

What do you think the best soft rock album ever is? Tango In The Night or something else?

I'm not sure what soft rock entails. Blood On the Tracks? Hats by The Blue Nile?

Tango is, song for song, not to mention in terms of coherence, a better record than Rumours.

Idk, I suppose we could refer to RYM.

RYM wrote:
Soft rock is a style of light, melodic, radio-friendly rock music which gained huge commercial success in the 1970s. It employs clean, highly polished production values and arrangements, often led by piano and/or acoustic guitar, aided by bouncy, harmonious bass guitar and with smooth, restrained use of electric guitar. Artists make frequent use of catchy, high-pitched harmonies, simple verse-chorus structures and sentimental lyrics, whilst additional layers of gentle synths and orchestration are not uncommon.

And here's their top chart.

However, they separate yacht rock from soft rock, while I'd consider yacht rock to be fully within the realm of soft rock. Also, there are a bunch of albums not tagged as either that probably should be.

As nobody has mentioned Mirage or Tusk I'd just like to mention two more Mac albums: Mirage and Tusk.

A record that i think it's worthy of the praise it deserves, it's hard not to love this album or at least to recognize it as a benchmark in popular music... Because some of the songs are so catchy that they might stick in your brain forever, popping up from time to time, no wonder why it's one of the best selling records of all time. Also, i don't know if anybody else is going to mention it, but i think "Never Going Back Again" is one of the most underrated songs on the record, i don't know if the reason has to do with it's short length, but as short as it might be... MY GOD, LISTEN TO THAT BEAUTIFUL GUITAR ARRANGEMENT, shout-out to Lindsey for being a freaking beast, and i mean it, i heard that when the guy left the band they had to have two guitarists in order to do his job (i think one of them was Mike Campbell, who happens to be a beast too)
