Since there are a number of other <insert country> music appreciation threads, I thought I'd start one for my homeland, the GWN. It seems to me that I have seen more than a few comments online (say on Youtube videos) that say something like "Canada has all the best music." Then the person will rhyme off band names like Metric, Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, New Pornographers and a bunch more that are, mmm, typical?
Seriously, non-Canadians do not know the half of it. I just want to highlight artists that you probably have never heard of who are frigging awesome.
I'll start with three who kind of dominate in Canada and I'm not even going to talk about the Tragically Hip (one of my three favourite bands ever, easily).
1. Matthew Good Band was very big in Canuckistan in the 1990's but Matthew Good solo is even better. However, there are still some standout cuts by MGB such as Apparitions, which I can't find on Youtube. So, the nearly-equally stellar Strange Days will have to suffice. I love this guy's voice because he really lets go.
2. Blue Rodeo is a legendary Canadian band. How awesome is Blue Rodeo? They're so awesome that Bob Egan left Wilco so he could be in Blue Rodeo, that's how awesome they are. They've had so many amazing songs and albums it's hard to pick one highlight. I have to say that Five Days in May is a great little ditty, though.
3. To my mind, the most exciting rock band in Canada today is Hey Rosetta! a superb live band playing straight ahead celt rock with just great lyrics, great playing and great singing. And they make fine, fine albums. Welcome is their most popular song but here's Young Glass, just a very strong song.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg. (And we know about icebergs up here.) Other people with other tastes will rave about The Weeknd or Deadmau5 or Crystal Castles or even Wolf Parade. We really do have a ton of friggin great music "up here." Discuss! _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

I kind of feel sorry for Canadian music lovers because after all, you proabably have the three most hated music artists of the modern era(Bieber, Buble and Nickelback).
Love Canadian rock and blues though and can't wait for some more new Canadian artists to check out!
Thats all ill post for now but ill be back. I honestly think Canada is the second most interesting country in the world for music (behind Macedonia) _________________ Alt Right meme game on point
I FEEL DISCRIMINATED AGAINST AS A PERSON OF JUDGEMENT.
Actually I finally listened to Manner and it is legitimately better than many of the acclaimed albums released this year. Hayden Who is pretty great.
Thank you

Just came to think that I've never heard any of his music. Aren't the albums for free download somewhere?
Candles is. But I wasn't allowed to give MANNER away for free when I got signed So it's currently $9.99 on bandcamp. It's being reissued later this month though, and I'm pretty sure we're selling it for $7.99 online. And I'm pretty sure there's a few torrent out there too

(Bieber, Buble and Nickelback).
Really? Buble? I've never seen a massive hate for him anywhere Celine Dion would be a better candidate.
And Canadian music is great. Actually, Canada made the best album ever . But we have some great artists, mostly in the last 20 years or so. Before that, except for like..Rush, The Band & Leonard Cohen, we were pretty weak. Especially compared to the British.
Destroyer, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Metric, Fucked Up, The Weeknd & Colin Stetson have all done Canadian music good over the past few years

There's more - Celine Dion for sure... and Bryan Adams, Rush, Anne Murray, Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies and Shania Twain often attract derision (depending on who you talk to). _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
CBC Radio is massive. Radio 2 and Radio 3 are both full of amazing music.
I used to be neighbours with the leader of Woodpigeon, and I used to work at the same college radio station as him. The guy never spoke to me... I gave up trying. To be fair, the guy might be a massive introvert, and I'm not extroverted either, but I always got the sense that he felt I wasn't worth his time. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
