L'ame Est Sans Retenue I by Jürg Frey
Gowi claims that these don't have to be from 2023, so I hope this'll be okay. It's obviously a very long release in theory, but I honestly feel like the first disc is enough to understand a lot of what makes it one of my all-time favorites these days.
Simply put, this is like 4'33 brought to its absolutely greatest potential. For years when Satie brought this up to me, I was so cynical about the potential gimmickry of this, but it really DOES make you understand the sound around you in a way I've so rarely experienced anywhere else, including Frey's own Nature Denatured (which I also love to a slightly lesser extent).
I also strongly suggest that you listen to this on speakers in a room. It definitely helps you be present with it as an artistic project.

When I first listened to this, when the first disc finished, I was like "what the fuck I wasted my money on this, why why why" and by the second disc I was absolutely miserable but then it started to pick up by the third disc. By the time I was on the 5th disc, the extended period with the extreme reduction of this music put me in a state that felt truly psychedelic. It's now one of my absolute favorite albums.
Dont just do one disc! Commit to the full 6 hours like its an acid trip!

I must concur that this IS ideal, but I also worried I'd have a mutiny if I expected all of BEA to do that.

You can't honestly put projects this long like this up and expect people to listen to them in good faith, right? Experimental music is tricky enough, but something like this?

lol yeah people would probably riot instead of go thru that full experience, so just going with disc 1 makes some sense, since https://www.discogs.com/release/3348696...etenue-III isn't easily streamable
Tho it's not just the decreased length on that one that makes it a smoother experience. The volume envelopes are longer on this one, it's way more of a peaceful experience

Charli I hope you don't mind I'm probably gonna listen to some of the other ALC entries first until I have time to go back and listen to this in full ("first disc" pshaw, gimme the Content). But yeah I'll be back here once I find 6 hours where I've got nothing else going on lol _________________ A Variety of Artists
