Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.3/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.5.

decent intense cross-genre and some gems.
Way Jazzier than I expected. Rating (75.50)
Enjoyable instrumental mix, good combination of jazz and rock.
This is an interesting listen - complex compositions and interesting dynamics between the vocals and the instruments. The "Variation" bookends are a nice touch, too.
Overall, a theatrical and well-composed blend of jazz, concert band and rock. Fans of Chicago and The Band will enjoy.
David Clayton-Thomas's voice just doesn't do it for me. Sad to say.
Best track: Spinning Wheel
Spinning Wheel is much better than You've Made Me So Very Happy
even though this album came out in the 60's, the song "Spinning Wheel" totally takes me back to the 70's... probably because i wasn't old enough to really pay attention to music in the 60's :-) it was really interesting to hear the album version for the first time, because it's got an extended coda of wacky amusement park melodies and band chatter that cut from the radio version. for me it gives the song quite a different feel.
Great mix between rock, jazz, pop and blues. I don't listen to jazz yet, but when I'll want to discover that genre, I'll be looking for albums like this one to introduce me.
BS&T loses their leader, Al Kooper, and comes back with one of the best records of the 60s. Has their two biggest hits, "Spinning Wheel" and "You've Made Me So Very Happy," along with classics like the standard, "God Bless the Child," and Laura Nyro's "And When I Die." The band's later efforts would be uninspired, but this is just great.
