Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.1/100, a mean average of 71.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

Omoiyari is, loosely speaking, a concept album, in that the lyrical content centers on the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. What makes the album such a triumph isn't that the album's themes are expressly political--though they are at times--but that these are genuinely affecting songs of love, family, and Kishi Bashi's characteristic humor. The songs are perhaps a bit more straightfowardly arranged than on some of Kishi Bashi's previous albums, and there's less dance music here. But I saw Kishi Bashi play at the Filling Station in Bozeman in support of this album, and you'd be hard pressed to argue that his sense of fun has in any way been diminished by the album's serious subject matter.

Excellent album lyrically. Kishi Bashi address the seldom discussed Japanese-American internment in the 1940s through vivid imagery, memories and upright defiance

The music is about what you'd expect from an indie pop album, with some progressive elements. The strings are excellent when given their chance to shine. Overall a good album, but doesn't achieve its potential
