Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.1/100, a mean average of 71.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.8.

This is one of my favorite bands of the 2010's and this album is one of their best. It's a concept album and it's very long but that doesn't do it any bad because there is always something interesting to discover here. At a first listen you would mistake this for a hardcore album but in fact it's only the death metal voice of Damian Abraham (aka Pink Eyes); for the rest this is just a good rock album which happens to have a concept (although this isn't really import because the lyrics are barely recognisable). Queen Of Hearts, Under My Nose, Turn The Season, Ship Of Fools, A Little Death, I Was There and especially Serve Me Right: the highlights are many.
Best Tracks: Queen of Hearts, The Other Shoe
The musical style here doesn't neatly fall into "punk" or "metal"....it's just hardcore. And yet some of the songs (Queen of Hearts, A Little Death) are so catchy they almost have a pop music sensibility. Add that to the fact that it tells the story of a a fictional character battling a narrator for control of of his life....and you have a recipe for what I consider to be the most kick ass rock album in over a decade. I can't remember the last time I played a new record this many times. Probably System of a Down's Toxicity.
The album starts off with an instrumental, which got me ready for what sounded like a potentially good indie rock album. Then, on the next song, the lead singer just starts screaming. Like heavy metal, angry, guttural screaming. And it stays like that the entire album. The music itself behind the screaming is very good, the guitar sounds good, it’s all well written. And even the screaming isn’t that bad. But what knocked this album for me is it’s length. It’s 18 tracks clocking in at 1.2 hours, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The problem is, every song is pretty much the same. I can only take the same song for so long. Then it just starts getting repetitive.

I can't believe this is ranked 74th. Definitely my favourite one of 2011
My favorite of 2011. Its always great to see a punk record that can speak to both old school punk fans and new ones.
