Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. Side one of Heartbreaker is a very strong side indeed by any standards. Side 2 has a different mood / vibe and is decent. Sadly Paul K was not in great condition around the time that the band were recording the album and we can be grateful he was in top form for Wishing Well, Come Together…, Travelling In Style & Heartbreaker.
A couple of the songs on here were leftover from Paul Rodgers time with the band Peace. I wish they'd recorded more of the songs from that period. Lady, Like Water and Zero BC would all be have been welcome additions to this album. I'd take any of those over the slightly under-cooked Easy On My Soul or the down right cringe worthy Muddy Water. Also, there's a truly amazing live version of Heartbreaker available on the Songs Of Yesterday boxed set (or youno.. youtube). It contains possibly my favorite guitar solo of all time.
