Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.4/100, a mean average of 76.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

from a band that's completely not my thing to an album that's so all-encompassingly my thing
Potentially The The's best album, the strength of the 4 tracks - Dogs Of Lust, Slow Emotion Replay, Love Is Stronger Than Death and Lonely Planet, puts this album right up there with Soul Mining for me and then Bluer Than Midnight may just tip the balance in favour of Dusk. The songs here are intense, literate, and most of them have a rich texture.
Regardless, it is a wonderful run of albums from Soul Mining, through Infected, Mind Bomb and up to Dusk. To be fair, they are all essential to any self respecting record collector, but out of interest, I would put Dusk and Soul Mining pretty much neck and neck.
Such a timeless album. With songs filled with such emotion, lyrics, and harmony this is perhaps the best The The album and the greatest thing to come out from the band. The album is somewhat cohesive, and each song stands out so much on their own. It took me a long time to break in the album and truly enjoy it for what it is.
Good alternative rock album. Best 10 songs average is 79,7/100 and the album can get good 80/100. Best song is "Lonely planet" 85/100, followed by "Love is stronger...", "Dogs of lust", "This is the night" and "Slow emotion replay" all 80/100. All other songs average 70-75/100.
Very strong collection of songs from the criminally overlooked Matt Johnson. Great mood, great lyrics. Sodium Light Baby my personal fave.
Another album that works fantastically well as a whole. Dark, brooding, lyrically challenging (as was all Matt Johnson's work) - any album to play at the start of a dark winter's night. Great atmosphere.
A somehow totally overlooked classic.
