Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 76.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.3.

Best Tracks: Rainmaker, Fairfax Rag
This album is pretty glorious. I mean, every melody and every line is so gosh darn carefully chosen and executed. The album just glimmers with pop perfection. Right from the brilliant opening track "The Puppy Song" with its exdellent bassline, its touching and humorous lyrics which any dog lover will love, its spot on vocal delivery, etc. Its a great great opener. This winning streak continues straight through to the end, as this album is just packed with 2-4 minute pop gems, many of which are Nilsson originals and a good chunk are genius covers of peers such as The Beatles and Randy Newman, etc.
Obviously, Nilsson didn't stop with this album, as he released 5 classic albums between 69-71. And the pitch perfect cover of "Simon Smith and the Amazing dancing bear" was a great teaser for the 1970 album of Nilsson's great take on Randy Newman originals. Anyway, I'm just saying things at this point and losing all structured thought. Apologies.
Other brilliant songs along with the opener and closer, are the meloncholic and dreamy "Open Your Window", the definitive version (from what I've yet heard) of the great Jerry Jeff Walker song "Mr. Bojangles", the Beatles cover "Mother Nature's song", "City Life", "Mournin' Glory Song", etc are all great.
This is really great album. I prefer the more all over the place, uninhibited side of Nilsson which he unleashed in about '71. But as far as a stately, nuanced, beautiful, perfectly structured set of singer/songwriter gems, this album is about as good as it gets. For any fans of The Beatles or just nice, dreamy pop, this is a must listen.

Lovely songs and good strings arrangements. I think it still sounds good.
A great record by one of the best voices of his generation.
