Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.9/100, a mean average of 63.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 63.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.4.

Pas le meilleur des glam rockeurs.. Cà s'écoute et cà s'oublie..
I wish that I'd have bumped into this record last year when it was new. I heard this for the first time, today. It must not have gotten much exposure over here in the U.S. :/ In the event that you TRULY loved "Permission To Land" you should definitely give this a spin. It's in the same vein. There aren't as many surefire hits, but songs like "With A Woman" & "Love Is Not The Answer" still fire on all cylinders. The Darkness is still the king of the cheesy classic rock revival bands, BUT if they don't keep producing bands like Steel Panther & Fire Tiger will take that crown.
First off, let me say that this album was so disappointing to me. I absolutely love The Darkness, or at the very least, I loved “Permission To Land" and it makes me genuinely sad to write a review about this album that isn’t the highest of praise, but unfortunately that is what this is. “Hot Cakes" has it’s moments, but generally this album sounds like Steel Panther taking themselves seriously. Justin Hawkins’ voice is still high and awesome as it usually is and the guitar-work is pretty decent, but many of the songs just sound boring for the most part. It’s a bunch of songs about the generally the same things (sex and partying) with little variety in the music. Now I wasn’t exactly expecting beautiful poetry from The Darkness, but I was expecting something a bit better than this. At the very least though, the album is amusing.
