Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.7/100, a mean average of 62.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 62.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.7.

I can't disagree with another comment made on here, Karen Carpenter had possibly the best female vocal voice ever recorded in popular music history. Her life was such a tradgety, in listening to superb work like this, it hard to understand the inner mental turmoil in her short life. 'Calling Occupants...' has to be one of the top three Carpenters tracks in my opinion.

Classic music from a classy group. This album is a bit more adventurous than their other material. Makes you wonder?

I've been listening to pop music for some 35 years, and I've sought out stuff clear back to the beginning of recorded music. Karen Carpenter has the best voice I've ever heard. This album, which I picked up because it had three of my favorite carpenter songs (All You Get From Love is a Love Song, Sweet Sweet Smile, and Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft). Two songs I had not heard before, Men Smart Women Smarter, and Don't Cry For Me Argentina, completely blew me away. The latter is far better than the Madonna version or any other version that I've heard.
This album, Karen's voice, it's just so beautiful it makes you grateful to the Good Lord for giving you ears.

Their most ambitious work and while it lacks any big ticket hits for them, may be their most consistent album start to finish.
