Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Another woefully underrated album in 2014, another punk-inflected 1-2 punch, and this time evoking The Cars, in a way that should make them jealous.
Sort of like a Riot Grrrl version of Fu Manchu with a smattering of power pop licks or even an older & more sophisticated Donnas => kickass fun summer jams that recall AOR hard rock from the 70s or an 80s New Wave girl band such as the Go-Gos. I miss Mary Timony's normally exotic guitar here, but they're having so much fun who really cares. ****

If you liked Wild Flag's debut, then you should like Ex Hex. They share Mary Timmons in common and her grrl rock is at times tighter and with more energy on "Rips" than that Wild Flag album. Each song has a groovy purpose and Ex Hex remains focused throughout.
