Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.1/100, a mean average of 75.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

Fantastic album. Probably the best by Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams. Can't decide between this and Heartbreaker but I think this is more seminal. There is some very good tracks here like "Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart", "16 Days", and the absolutely perfect "Houses on the Hill". Alt-Country at its finest
I hadn't listened to this album in a couple years, but did this past weekend. Absolutely amazing. So many wonderful songs. I like all of the Whiskeytown albums, including Forever Valentine, but his is the best IMO.
While Ryan Adams’s current singing style favors moments of higher register quasi-mewling and wild dynamics, his alt-country Whiskeytown work, especially here on Strangers Almanac, has the smoky mumble of an older soul and the rustic cadence of a Southern spirit more at home in the turgid mosquito air of a Carolina-tavern parking lot in summer than the zipping lights of a limo careening to some big-city afterparty. I love both Ryan Adamses, and this is Whiskeytown's finest moment. The sweetness of "Somebody Remembers the Rose" doesn't do anything innovative musically, but it combines the best of Ryan Adams's songwriting and Caitlin Cary's violin work.
Feel like I might have to listen to it again. It's definitely a lot more "2deep4u" than Adams' solo stuff.
An absolutely beautiful album. Hard to find any weaknesses here. "Losering" is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Solid often spectacular alt-country from mastermind Ryan Adams and company. A number of tracks were performed with more heart and less polish on "Faithless Street", but still a vital Whiskeytown album like the rest.
Houses on the Hill is a great song. Good album.
