Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.2/100, a mean average of 75.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.9.

Mature and evocative songwriting with sophisticated arrangements - a true modern classic.
Great music but bad voice.
Best Tracks: Times Square, Sun In The Sky
Despite what I first thought, this doesn't live in the shadows of Kaputt. I think the moral of the story is: never try to peg Dan Bejar.
Still is one of favourite records of the year.
HOT DAMN!!! What took me so long to get to this? This is brilliant!!
An interesting listen, as always with destroyer. Pretty solid record but it's not quite at the same level as its predecessor, Kaputt.
I was waiting with bated breath for Destroyer's next album for quite a long time. I think I checked Google and various websites every day for months leading up to its release. I wasn't completely and utterly "wowed" by "Poison Season" but I did love what I heard when I finally got to play the record. Dan Bejar pulled another 180 and made an album with lush orchestration that often sounds like a musical. The production is perfect, and each song is very tuneful. I rated every song highly. I'd say the sound of "Poison Season" is most similar to "Your Blues". They both share the same sing-songy quality, but "Poison Season" is a much more developed effort. Here Dan Bejar really shows his musical range and talent. I didn't like this album quite as much as I liked "Streethawk: A Seduction", and the best of "Poison Season" doesn't match the best of "Kaputt" - but I would rate this as one of the better Destroyer albums.
On my first listen I loved it, now I just find it kind of boring. I'll probably come back sometime and try again.
Wow I love this, I didn't think any albums would come even close to dethroning Kendrick or Sufjan as 1 and 2 for the year, but the more I listen the more I think it (very slightly) beats out Sufjan for second best record of the year.
