Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.2/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

A great debut. I marginally preferred The Last Broadcast, but this album has its fair share of beautiful relaxing instrumentals. My highlight is probably Sea Song or The Cedar Room.

This is the perfect winter album. The three-song stretch of "Catch the Sun", "The Man Who Told Everything", and "The Cedar Room" is perhaps my favorite twenty-minute sequence off of any album ever.

A decent album with songs that last forever, I do not like the habit of extending songs beyond their useful life. Thank you. In the 1960s a songwriter could make a classic song that lasts only 2,5 minutes

Debut album from the Doves. Like it's successor, it's full of big pop songs, a kind of darker and more working class version of Coldplay. Atmospheric and ambitious, but it never fails to live up to what it promises. A solid start.

A very underrated album. Doves' strongest release with plenty of memorable songs. The bonus track Valley is even better...one of my favorite Doves songs ever

Best songs: Here It Comes, The Cedar Room, Catch the Sun, Rise, Melody Calls

I find tracks 1 through 5 fantastic. Where as the majority of the rest of the album is quite disappointing.
