Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.1/100, a mean average of 83.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

Really don't think there's much more to add as people below have really summarised it so well. Like all great movies, the soundtrack to Fellowship isn't just an addition to what's on screen, it viscerally conveys the emotions and themes and sheer scale of what plays out. It's one of my favourite films ever and the score is such a big part of that.
Talk about welling up when music makes you feel sad, that isn't the case here; I well up because of how astonishingly good this whole thing is.
Best soundtrack ever for me personally, so I'll have to give it 100/100.
Amazing music for amazing film
Impecável!
Hard to compare something like thks to the likes of Radiohead, the Beatles etc. Had to include some of my favourite scores in the ranking though and this represents the LOTR trilogy. Very difficult, as with the films themselves, to choose one of the three.
Shore's work is the very definition of a motif based score. It made a huge impact on me as a teenager and helped to create some of my greatest "cinema experiences".
And the other soundtracks from the trilogy are the same.
I told myself I'd never give a soundtrack "album" a score, but this soundtrack takes the cake as the greatest of all time. The feelings I get listening to this is similar to that of "lift your skinny fists". Perfection.
The beginning of a fantastic trilogy of soundtracks. It sets up many haunting themes that evoke the beauty and drama of the story. Great work by a great composer.
desperately waiting for the Hobbit...
