Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.9/100, a mean average of 68.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.1.

Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun and catchy record that is much, much more than My Sharona. The lyrical content is trite and honestly pretty sexist, but ignore that (which is fairly easy to do), and it's full of great tunes.

Sophomoric? Undoubtedly. Catchy as Hell? Hell, yes! Easily dismissed as only the idiot riff of "My Sharona" The Knack put together a near perfect combination of guitars, beats and adolescent frustration as an alt-pop confection. One of my favorites.

My Sharona is a kick-ass single with one of the greatest octave hooks of all time, and it tricked a lot of people into buying an album that would have been a zero without that single. This thing is a mess. (And yes, I bought it when it came out and still have it in the SHAME section of my collection, hanging out with Naked Eyes and The Partridge Family.)

One of the greatest pop singles of all time in My Sharona, this band was very talented all around. Good Girls Don't, Your Number or Your Name, Oh Tara. Monster album at the time and it holds up well.

Not session guys, so your entire premise is flawed. Raw, energetic rock & roll from a young, hungry band that was killed not by fans, but by the press. This album has as much energy as anything produced in the decade. Or the one after it.

People hate this band because they listen to the rock & roll press. The press hated them...and they killed them. Get The Knack is a very good album. Too bad we were all told it wasn't by writers who didn't like the fact that they were inaccessible to them. This is that next great Cheap Trick album that never came.
