Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 73.9/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 20.2.

They were very good composers, with Slash being an exceptional guitarist as a bonus. They really took glam-metal to his peak with a more menacing and robust sound. The only thing is, well, it's still glam-metal, so it wasn't super original to begin with.

They were really good for one album, and then it was downhill. They still made good songs until after use your illusion. They certainly don't deserve all the praise they get, but they are still a quality band. Slash is like a hard rock version of david gilmour.

Guns N' Roses were a breath of 'fresh' air when they broke onto the music scene. By the 80's 'Heavy' rock bands had become stale, hairy parodies of previous bands, more pop rock than heavy rock. Guns N' Roses' more gritty sound put off many, in order to get noticed their marketing team(s) came up with a silly distasteful album cover and other dodgy merchandising material, putting off others who regarded it all as an affront to moral decency. Bands should be judged by their music, not their marketing.
Accusations of being Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith rip-offs are ridiculous, it's almost impossible not to build on the success of previous bands, and no, they could not sound like Led Zeppelin one little bit! One of the most interesting bands of the late 80's, they provoked every reaction from devotion to blind hatred. Nirvana's 1992 Nevermind made them seem uncool, they responded with the covers album 'Spagetti Incident' where for me only one track hit the mark (Down On The Farm). So the real Guns N' Roses were over by 1993, nothing Axl's rantings and on-stage tantrums could change. They only produced three great/good albums so could never claim to be one of the great bands, but as they say, briefly their star shone brightly, they were fun while they lasted.

Good Rock'n Roll Band but drugs and alcohol destroy it.

I will always love Guns N' Roses as they were the band to get me into rock music. However, as much as i really like the Illusions albums, they never outdid their debut. It's a shame: as Ozzy said, had the original lineup stayed together, they could have been the Led Zeppelin/Rolling Stones of the 90s.

They were the best of their genre, it's a shame that led people to believe they're an all-time great.

The first album is a masterpiece but it went downhill after that.
