Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 82.6/100, a mean average of 80.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.2/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.5.

Frank is one of the most important figures in the entertainment business. His vast catalog of music and films belong to a common heritage.
Sinatra's brand of effortless singing contrasts starkly with what we put up with today.

A giant of 20th century music. Magnificent voice.
The greatest and best singer and artist of all time!
The first great figure of popular music. Carved out an extraordinary sequence of albums many but not all with Nelson Riddle. Of the ones I've heard they can generally be grouped into either ballad and swing albums. Of the former category In the Wee Small Hours and Sings for Only the Lonely are the classics. Songs for Swingin Lovers and A Swinging Affair are the standouts for the faster paced discs. A good starting point is a 7 album set in 4 discs that are avaliable for a lot of jazz artists. It includes a swinging affair, Come Fly with Me, Nice n Easy and a number of other fine albums + slightly ropey christmas album. I don't think I'm overstating it when I say SFSL's is an absolute necessity for any serious music collection.
Don't own any Sinatra Albums other than a couple of best of compilations as never felt I needed more than them, so admittedly I'm not the best authority to comment on his work. Usually not the style of music I listen to but have to say that when I'm in the mood for it, I love it. You've heard these songs sung by various different artists over the years, but his voice and the timing of his delivery is second to none. A true great.
Even today, the epitome of cool. His voice is so smooth, so effortless. Michael Buble can only wish.
Elvis Presley, Johnpaulgeorgeringo, Chuck Berry, Miles Davis, and 'ol Blue Eyes. THE most important figures in 20th century music. Frank Sinatra's body of work, style, staying power and influence exceeds all those above combined. The first true ALBUM artist. The first to conceptually link a body of song on a disc. To that this entire site should recognize his contribution. The fact that his stuff is absolutely astounding in style and substance is a mere side-note. The best.
