Every song is outstanding. 'Range Life' and 'Fillmore Jive' are probably best. 'Range Life' was alt country before alt country was really a thing. Leave it to Pavement to dis other bands (Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots) in one of their best songs. Very hip hop of them to record a beef for posterity. The Flaming Lips made so many wonderful albums, but The Soft Bulletin is still my favorite. It remains as poignant and relevant as ever, particularly given our ongoing opioid addiction epidemic. Even though the album was released in 1999, I’ve come to think of it as the dividing line between 20th and 21st century music. It was the 1st album that sounded like the new millennium.

‘The Spiderbite Song’, ‘What Is the Light’, ‘Suddenly Everything Has Changed’, and ‘The Gash’ are the most underrated of many underrated tracks.

Years later and I'm still discovering new things with each listen. One day, this could pass The Soft Bulletin to become my favorite Lips album. [First added to this chart: 12/20/2014]

A Live One was probably my favorite album from when I bought it sometime in 1995/96 to at least the year 2000. My enjoyment of it hasn’t really declined since then…it’s just that my enjoyment of other bands and albums has since increased. A Live One’s release coincided with the start of my Phish fandom. I attended my first live show a year later in 1996 and haven’t looked back.

My favorite tracks have changed so many times over the years. Upon last listen, ‘Stash’, ‘Slave to the Traffic Light’, ‘Simple’, ‘Harry Hood’ and ‘The Squirming Coil’ were the standouts, but really…I love it all. I even have more patience and enjoyment for the 31 minute ‘Tweezer’ than I did back then. The extended jam goes to some very strange but rewarding places, before (what appears) effortlessly storming back into ‘Tweezer’ for the last few minutes. The piano solo outro to the closing track, ‘The Squirming Coil’ is, and has always been, sublime.

This album reminds me of the turn of the millennium and early aughts in San Francisco/Oakland...seemed to be on constant play among friends back then. Still an outstanding and relevant album with my favorites being 'Three-Dee Melodie', 'Wow and Flutter', 'Ping Pong' and 'Nihilist Assault Group'. Yes, they have a song called 'Nihilist Assault Group' that was released 4-years before The Big Lebowski...totally ahead of their time. [First added to this chart: 08/15/2015]

OK Computer is a great album, but Radiohead has never been a top 10 band for me and probably never will be. I really need to be in the right mood to handle Thom Yorke’s vocals…unlike some other artists that can transport me into the right mood. [First added to this chart: 12/16/2014]

Another amazing Pavement album. Brighten The Corners has (type) slowly moved up to rival Slanted And Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. ‘Ode To Begin’, ‘Type Slowly’, ‘Embassy Row’ and ‘We Are Underused’ are the most underrated tracks. ‘Stereo’ is one of favorite songs of 1990s. Emperor Tomato Ketchup is BEA’s favorite Stereolab album and my second favorite after Mars Audiac Quintet (which BEA rates 4th best btw). This is one of my go-to-albums from one of my go-to-bands. [First added to this chart: 08/16/2015]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.8/100, a mean average of 89.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.5.

Splendid chart. Genesis reigns supreme. The Lamb is a formidable work. I also love screaming along to "It". One of the greatest songs of all time. They always knew how to end an album right (The Knife, Fountain of Salmacis, Los Endos, etc.).

Probably the chart I identify the strongest with, at least when it comes to the top 20. I've also been noticing Lamb on a lot of peoples lists lately, it's certainly an album that requires multiple listens to get and it gets better every time. I think Supper's Ready is still their best song, but Lamb is their best album overall. You got some crazy stuff out of left field too I wasn't expecting, so I better check some of it out! I've seen the Flaming Lips live yet I haven't cared much for their actual music.....I know, it's weird. I'm gonna keep trying though.

Interesting chart, with interesting choices, though I think its better to introduce more bands. Your descriptions show how much effort you put in your chart.

Very good chart, very good music.
My only criticism: I´d like to have more different artists and not too many albums of the same artists.
congratulations anyway.

Sure there might be a few albums here that aren't really my thing but I am really impressed with the effort you have gone into with your notes!! Some jazz and electronic albums sneaking in would up this to a perfect score from me!

Nice to see something by Joni Mitchell besides fuckin Blue. And Mars Audiac is indeed Stereolab best album.
