Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Junomoogmello

I have quite a varied interest in music covering a number of styles from psychedelic, prog, heavy metal, hard rock, pop rock and eighties electronica through to some free form fusion jazz. I have a large music library with a mint vinyl collection which I am very proud of. I play a number of instruments and am fortunate to own a Juno 60, a Moog and Mellotron among various other toys including synths, samplers, guitars, pedals and electric drums. My user name is a combination of the three keyboards mentioned above. My fascination with synthesisers was triggered by two Tangerine Dream albums, Exit and White Eagle, these albums led me into a world of discovery and I own most of the huge Tangerine Dream catalogue in one format or another, I therefore make no apology that Tangerine Dream appear in my chart several times. I consider myself fortunate to have seen Tangerine Dream three times, the last occasion being at the Royal Albert Hall and from my seat I could have reached forward and touched Edgar Froese' Nord Lead! They opened with Birth of Liquid Plejades from Zeit if you are into TD. Music tends to sit within seasons for me, I tend to listen to more prog and metal through autumn and winter and more eighties new wave electronica/synth pop and psychedelia through the summer, I guess it's the feel good factor with the former (eighties) and the musical brilliance of some of the very original and mind expanding albums in the case of the latter (sixties), perhaps mentally transporting me to the Summer of Love.

A school mate lent me this album some thirty years ago and I was blown away back then, even though playing it on a fairly budget end 'music centre' at the time. Having just invested in my own mint vinyl re-issue, I am equally blown away especially playing it through decent audio kit. This imo is Clapton at his best, much as I like Cream and 461 Ocean Boulevard era Clapton. Interestingly, I had never noticed before, the similarities between this album and some of Rory Gallagher's work. [First added to this chart: 06/07/2018]

This is a classic album, the best of the Radio Gnome trilogy in my opinion. There are so many musical styles on this album it is difficult to classify. No other band ever sounded like Gong, solo Steve Hillage came a little close with some of his work. [First added to this chart: 09/17/2017]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 4% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.0/100, a mean average of 90.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.1.

What can I say?
Some interesting picks and tip-top commentary.
It made a fascinating read.
It's great to see Wish You Were Here and Sgt Pepper so high.
Wish I could have seen Pink Floyd live, must have been quite something.
I must try out The Enid and Budgie. Sound intriguing.
And thanks for introducing me to the track Patricia The Stripper.
I have a friend with loads of keyboards and sound equipment so I understand your passion.
I don't have the inclination to play instruments, I wish I could, but I appreciate great musicianship.
As you clearly do too.

Great chart. There's only a very small number of charts that have ever got 100 from me and they all contain extensive comments which makes them personal and therefore much more than just a list. Thanks for sharing. it was fun reading this. I also get the point about CD replacing vinyl and now vinyl replacing CD. If I find a nice vinyl copy of a CD that I already own I'll tend to by it.

Lovely chart.
Lot´s of albums that I love and a lot of unkknown albums.
I hope I`ll find the time to explore the albums I don`t know.
Good Tangerine Dream picks: Rybicon and Force Majeur are wonderful albums.
Zeit is a strange, mystical and difficult album: It´s surprising for me that it`s rated so high, but I like it.

A lot of very good choices, but I have never understood the appeal of Rush. You are right about needing Quark & Xenon, both great albums, as are many other Hawkwind Lp's.

A lot of rock I don't care for, but I always care for the descriptions and they are here to deliver ;)

Even though there's little intersect in terms of our shared tastes, this is undeniably a brilliant chart. Love all the effort that has gone into it in terms of the notes, as well as the flourish of both rock and electronic albums with a progressive flavour (TD's Zeit is a personal favourite of mine!).

For me, the focus on the 70s & 80s means that more modern forms of electronic music get sidewinded a little (would be nice to see some more modern ambient, as well as techno/IDM; check out my 2000s chart for my favourites in those genres) as well as hip hop, though otherwise this is a perfect chart in my view. Well done!!

Your taste in Tangerine Dream is divine. You have so many of them too. At one time I had four or five tangerine dream's in my top 100, but I thought it was too much, so now I just have two or three. Lol. Maybe I'll put them back in.
