Chamber Rock // Post-Rock

Favorite Tracks: Concorde, Haldern, Basketball Shoes

You are sitting on the edge of your seat, and backwards you fall. Your head crashes into the water. A pool filled with angels and memories and catharsis.

Ants may be my most important release of this whole year. It is so good that I can confidently make that decision at February. Impeccable songwriting. The instruments lend themselves not unlike Masked Dancers, which I just reviewed. Somehow the guitar wiggles its way into your heart, the violin and sax into your soul. Isaac Wood may just be my favorite male vocalist of all time. His words over 1 short hour carry more emotional weight than I may be able to produce in my life. Scratch that. Even the drums have more emotion than I could hope to convey in words. It’s stunning…..

Do you even like me? You are going to say yes and I’ll take that I guess. I would be lying if I said I don’t seek your social emotional validation. I said I didn’t care, but maybe I do. Is this even part of the write-up anymore? Am I even saying things I mean? Is that guitar that’s ringing in my ears real or are you calling out to me? Is that violin really comforting me? Does that sax really whisper my story? Am I so blind to the world? I think that with a few more listens, I could answer those questions.

Concorde, we're old now
And you wield a lightsaber
And led by the dark to our place on the table
So don't tell me you're hungry
'Cause darling I'm starving myself
And I heard you're on Atkins as well
I was made to love you
Can't you tell?

Surf Rock // Ambient Pop

Favorite Tracks: Never Find a Girl, The Next Time, Standing Time

This album means so much to me. I discovered it while cleaning out my grandmothers house. There is no other album that comes close to comforting me as this one does.

New Wave

Favorite Tracks: Bonny, Horsin' Around, When the Angels

My personal favorite "80s" album. Yknow, it just sounds like the 80s. Even so, Paddy's songwriting just brings the album to a whole new level. There's just something different about this album.

I spend the days with my vanity
I'm lost in heaven and I'm lost to earth
Didn't give you minutes not even moments
All my life in a tower of foil
Shaded feelings, don't believe you
When you were there before my eyes
No one planned it took it for granted

Post-Punk (as post-punky as it could get)

North American release

Tracks: India, Sister Europe, Pulse, Fall, We Love You, Soap Commercial, Imitation of Christ, Wedding Song, Flowers

The most creative post-punk album. Richard Butler's singing is just so unique. From the album structure to the songwriting, everything is just perfect.

Imitation of Christ
This you who lie and scream
You fall to dust
You fall to dust
In walls of words
Your words are blind
You speak and you are dumb and blind
The word that is your god
Is you who fall so low and fall so far
Imitation of Christ

Post-Punk // Synthpop

Synth-Punk implies the existence of post-synth-punk. This is it. Peter Hook is my favorite bassist, and Age of Consent might just be my favorite song ever. This album walks the line in the history of New Order where they had shifted enough away from Joy Divison to be true post-punk anymore, yet they still hadn't become full-on dance yet. It is the most wonderful mix of both. Also, the cover is just gorgeous.

Won't you please let me go
These words lie inside they hurt me so
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I'm not the kind that needs to tell you
Just what you want me to
I saw you this morning
I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I've actually heard it
You're going to regret

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.8/100, a mean average of 93.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.8.

This must be about the best chart I have ever seen. Its composition is like nothing else I have seen on this site or anywhere else, has some quite good notes (though I will say that they could do more than discuss the best tracks and look at each album’s wider importance) and many very unsual albums. The song list, too, is very good.

fantastic chart.
It starts nicely with some classics, but it shows some pretty unknown and interesting picks besides the mainstream.

Nice chart, as far as 60s/70s-centric charts go, this one is right up my alley. Personally my chart is more slanted towards the recent decades, but this is great.

I'll have to listen to the Philippine albums here

So Time Out is back on! I really like your list still. Good stuff. A little bit too 70s oriented, which is okay since it's such a great decade for music, but I like to see diversity through out the decades and genres. It just shows more of an open mind but eh... I get it. My original list had nearly 40 entries for the 90s lol.
