Favorites: Problem Number 6, Galaxy, Ya Ya Breathe, Lachrymose
Lachrymose does exactly what it promises. It’s all way over my head but in these times, only these times, I can still feel.
It took a while to get here.
Bruno Pernadas’ 2016 album Those Who Throw Objects At the Crocodiles Will Be Asked To Retrieve Them is just as intriguing as it seems. It says so many truths. It says one just want to be free of boundaries. They want to be no one but themselves, anywhere in the Galaxy, Anywhere in Spacetime. It doesn’t matter what others think of them. They have you. They are lost without you. But when you are by their side they can go anywhere in the Galaxy, Anywhere in Spacetime. Those Who Throw Objects can take you anywhere.
I got in that spaceship. It rocked and rumbled under me. I saw heaven for two seconds, I thought of you. I saw fire for two seconds, I thought of me. I crashed into the cold water, a valley in the ocean, I died thinking of you and me. I waited by the water and you never came. We never had boundaries. Now I don’t.
This album transcends all boundaries. Like all innovations of music somehow led to this point. Jazz, Rock, Pop, Electronica, all welded together into a warm hug of beautiful guitar solos and trumpets and funky basslines. There’s electronic instrumentation reminiscent of Sweet Trip’s best music and just the sweetest, silkiest vocals present all over this album. The lyrics present such vivid imagery of days and love gone by. However, it amazes me how much the music adds to that image. Perhaps even more than the lyrics. I read Circe while listening to this album for the first time. I weeped for the first time in a long time. It was before December. I could still feel.
I knew a guy who used to cry. He sat in bed all day and night. He was lachrymose, closed all day. He dreamed of flying, he had to stay.
I don’t mind and I don’t care. You caught my eyes, I had to stare. What a star you are. I don’t know what that means. It’s been a while since you grounded your dreams.
10 rockets / 10
Sometimes I stop and wonder
Will you start to fly
You drive by and shoot in places
I thought I saw you try
Oh, what a mess
Almost a year now
Oh, what a star you are
Stop making sense
Down by the water
It's over my head, now
Way over my head, now
Way over my head, now [First added to this chart: 10/06/2021]
Favorite Tracks: Sleep In While You're Doing Your Best, My Sputnik Sweetheart, Cut Lips, Porcelain Hands
You have late nights of seeing red. People misunderstand your anger and that makes you all the more rageful. It’s not them or yourself who are to blame. It’s the world. It’s the feeling of empty defeat caused by betrayal. It’s your closest confidants turning a blind eye. It’s the rage at your loneliness. It all comes full circle, a downward spiral towards doom. Fortunately, Come In is always here to help.
Weatherday is a Swedish act created by the swedish musician Sputnik. Released in 2019, Come In initially appears to just be another album that has ridden the Emo wave of the last 5 years. That couldn’t be further from the truth. On Come In, every progressive note sounds so fresh, yet it presents a type of cohesive soundscape that marks only the best albums. That soundscape is bittersweet. Almost every song speaks of bad days of the past. Those days when you were still in love but it hurt so bad. You had to leave just to come crawling back. You hurt each other, you were both guilty. You both hoped you would never see each other again but you always would. Every harsh word stung like little cuts. Each one hurt a little bit more than the last. Suddenly you were trapped, left only to wallow in your pain and suffering. This music hurts to listen to, but you can’t stop loving. It’s not who you are.
“Of the past”, however, is a powerful statement. This album speaks of triumph. It speaks of moving past those days when you were paralyzed by the pain. For every moment of darkness and despair, there is one of warmth. Bittersweet, an oxymoron.
You could change yourself, hole up and tunnel till you don’t know the day or time. Distract yourself from it all.The pain outside could go away, but the hurt inside always remains. And I know Weatherday was hurt badly.
One can’t write a song like My Sputnik Sweetheart and not be coming from a place of deep, dark, shattering hurt.
But you let Weatherday knock on your door. You say Come In and they do. This music can Come In your earbuds and warm up the otherwise cold head you call home. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. The hurt may remain, but it fades over time. Scars can heal. They were once bleeding but they stitch up and eventually stop. They are pink and raw and then they aren’t. Scars can heal.
Come In can heal
10 stitches /10
If you're crying, know there is reason to
If you want to come in, it's okay to
If you want to sit this one out, you could come back
If a space is too big, a room can still get small
Remember that it isn't always your fault
Remember that a poorly drawn person can still be loved
And if you hate yourself sometimes
Sputnik sweetheart you're for one
If you're alone and no one's there to see it
Does it count?
Anyway alone's too vague and relative
If you need a reference to compare with
And no one is around
If you're painted, does it count?
If you feel so very vulnerable
And helpless in their arms
Then what's the point, in sharing your flaws [First added to this chart: 02/23/2022]
Soundtrack compilation
The most wonderful soundtrack of all time. Even separated from the game itself, this stands as some great songwriting on its own. Glorious, heart-wrenching, anxious. [First added to this chart: 06/03/2021]

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.8/100, a mean average of 93.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.8.

This must be about the best chart I have ever seen. Its composition is like nothing else I have seen on this site or anywhere else, has some quite good notes (though I will say that they could do more than discuss the best tracks and look at each album’s wider importance) and many very unsual albums. The song list, too, is very good.
¡Dios mío! la mitad de los álbumes que están aquí no los conozco. Me diste algo para escuchar, grandioso chart.
Tu lista de canciones también es muy interesante.
English review
OMG! Half of the albums that are here I don't know. You gave me something to listen to, great chart.
Your track list is also very interesting
Team Dresch!!! Killer selection, my friend! Quite diverse!
Thank you so much for you rating and comment Seb! I will be happy to listen to your recommendation quite soon <3
I really love your chart as well and your notes are awesome.
fantastic chart.
It starts nicely with some classics, but it shows some pretty unknown and interesting picks besides the mainstream.
Nice chart, as far as 60s/70s-centric charts go, this one is right up my alley. Personally my chart is more slanted towards the recent decades, but this is great.
I'll have to listen to the Philippine albums here
Very nice. Lots of my favorites here. I got to give Quicksilver Messenger Service a try.
So Time Out is back on! I really like your list still. Good stuff. A little bit too 70s oriented, which is okay since it's such a great decade for music, but I like to see diversity through out the decades and genres. It just shows more of an open mind but eh... I get it. My original list had nearly 40 entries for the 90s lol.
merry christmas
Cool stuff Great Number 1
