What happens when you take a fine country singer like Alison Krauss, throw in the grizzled lead singer from Led Zeppelin and let T-Bone Burnett produce the resulting album of mostly cover songs? Gold, baby! Raising Sand is one of the nice surprises of the early century...vocally excellent, and most beautifully done. Plant and Krauss sound like they were made for each other, singing simple and intricate harmonies as if they'd been doing it together for 40 years. And the production by the most tasteful Burnett is exactly what they needed to bring it all together.
The songs, too, are expertly chosen. Represented are Townes Van Zant, Mel Tillis, Tom Waits, Gene Clark, The Everly Brothers, John Prine, and even Burnett's wife, Sam Phillips. The lone non cover is "Please Read The Letter", written by plant and Jimmy Page. Every song is excellent, every performance is breathtaking. This is a perfect album by an unlikely perfect couple. Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. I enjoyed looking through this chart -- discovering a few bands I've missed along the way. Nice to see 5 Aussie/NZ artists listed (this includes Crowded House, of course). I even found about 5 of my top 100 in your top 201-300 - which I think is so cool.

Good album rating some classics and some of the 2000s i give you 90 points because it is a good choice.
