Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 7% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 21.5.

RIP Gord Downie. A poet, a talent, a true Canadian gift.

I like how this comments sections is basically just jhuik and I worshiping them
That list of top seven songs is absolutely correct.
I don't think there is any other band that has written so many of my favourite songs of all time. New Orleans Is Sinking, 38 Years Old, Boots Or Hearts, Little Bones, Cordelia, Long Time Running, Three Pistols, Fiddler's Green, The Last Of The Unplucked Gems, Courage, Looking For A Place To Happen, At The Hundredth Meridian, Locked In The Trunk Of A Car, We'll Go Too, Fully Completely, Fifty-Mission Cap, Wheat Kings, Grace Too, Nautical Disaster, Gift Shop, Ahead By A Century, Something On, Bobcaygeon, Fireworks, Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man, My Music At Work, Lake Fever, and It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken are all pretty much perfect songs as far as I'm concerned. And yet, almost nobody outside of Canada has even heard of them...
I think the best way to explain The Hip's impact to non-Canadians would be like Bruce Springsteen, if New Jersey were the whole country.
Their prime was definitely the early 90's (you could easily argue that Road Apples, Fully Completely, and Up To Here are their three greatest albums and they all came out in a row from 1991-1994), but even post-2000s they've put out some great work (In Violet Light has aged a lot better than its initial reception would indicate, We Are the Same and Man Machine Poem are solid returns to form).
One of the greatest bands of all time, sadly underappreciated outside of Canada. Gord Downie may be my favourite lyricist, and Ahead By A Century is in my top 5 songs ever.
Good country-flavored Canadian rock.
My wife just pointed this out to me: John, Paul, Gord (x2), Rob. They're our Fab Five. If you haven't seen them live, well, you have my regrets.
The Tragically Hip have long been the staple 'Canadian rock band'. While at times this may come across as contrived (forced hockey references abound), the Hip are truly something unique and one that the country has every right to be proud of. Enveloped in this rock band is the enigma of songwriter Gord Downie: part rockstar and part poet. Often overshadowed by the power and intensity of the music, Downie has proven to be one of the most intelligent and challenging songwriters on the planet. The Hip's 1994 alum Day For Night best captures the band at its creative peak, effortlessly balancing accessible rock with poignant and powerful songwriting.
