Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.0/100, a mean average of 76.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

I think this might be a rare case of a "perfect" album. No weak/filler songs, no cliche/eye-rolling lyrics, lots of emotion and great vocal performances on top of strong music. I prefer the heaviness of a Soundgarden record, but it's hard to argue that Cornell made a stronger album than this one in his career (with the possible exception of Superunknown).

A fantastic album to discover if you are a fan of Pearl Jam or Soundgarden as you can literally see the potential right here on this record. The music feels so raw, powerful and full of passion due to everyone's clear hunger to make amazing music. You have some outstanding vocals from both Vedder and Cornell with the latter providing some of the best performances I have ever heard him put on a record. Cornell's voice is full of desire and energy and it is so refreshing to hear a different recording of his voice. Instrumentally, they back up the vocalists brilliantly with the style and atmosphere being perfectly created for us to enjoy. Songs like Hunger Strike, Call Me A Dog and Say Hello 2 Heaven demonstrate the peak of the music on this album with all three songs being outstanding. Overall, this album feels like a passion project which makes it so accessible to the listener as we can empathise with their love to make music and so we instantly connect with this record and fall in love with it.

My below comment still stands. How is this record rated a 77 but the song score average is at 84? Listen again and get back to me.

RIP Chris and Andrew.

Can't help but feel this is slightly underrated on this site. Cornell's best album vocally.

Still one of the best alt rock, grunge and 90s albums. Severely underrated. RIP Andy and RIP Chris, so many legends have left us

Important step for the formation of Pearl Jam, while Cornell's songwriting was improving. You can hear both Soundgarden's and PJ's footprint, but their 1991 albums would have been much better.
