2011 was a definitive year in music for me, and this album helped to marshall in what was in many ways one of the most influential years of music in the young 21st century. This is my favorite of James Blake, and it is so well crafted, has so much dark energy and pulsing currents. An incredible debut from a supremely talented artist.

Great album but all of his albums are so good. Might be getting this one of vinyl soon if it's still at the record store I go to.

always felt this was a mediocre album with cool, albeit gimmicky, production. but i might just be sore that he moved away from his earlier, burial-influenced work.

Pretty much agree with this.

However, whilst Burial's stuff undoubtedly would have had a direct effect on James Blake and his decision to make dubstep, their sounds were really quite distinct from one another, despite both being influenced by UK garage and turn of the millennium r'n'b. Blake's was airier and crisper and lighter; Bevan's denser, muddier, darker. I never saw Blake as being a Burial descendant any more than just another part of the more UK garage-leaning section of the dubstep scene.
