What do you expect? It's a public poll. Green Day is the most popular "punk" band ATM so teenagers who don't understand the genre's history will vote for the band in droves.
But yeah, I'm not sure that Green Day are even in the top 50 punk bands of all time. Whether they can even be called punk is also up for debate.
Yeah, probably a bunch of teenagers who love American Idiot voted. Not entirely sure why that record was the big success it was, outside of the "anger" it had for the then current president. For some reason, I hoped that Gang of Four would show up on the list, but I probably should have known not to get my hopes up
Brought punk back into the mainstream. Showed young kids what punk was really about and many causes which would have not reached the ears of the youth if they hadn't been around.
One of the very best and well deserved. 3 talented guys who have their best to come. I know they will inspire a new generation of punks who'll rebel against the system.

The reason they won is because two Green Day websites posted the link so the vote got filled up with loads of Green Day fans.
What he said.
And let's be honest, Green Day is an ok band. Just not the best punk band of all-time. I wouldn't actually mind seeing them in the top 10 (for a public poll). They don't deserve #1 at all though. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
Evaluating punk rock as a whole is a task that should not really be attempted -- it is so varied and contains so many sub-genres and, unlike say, metal, it inherently opposes mainstream tendencies, not just as a byproduct of anger and booze.
That being said, who cares?? We all know that the Dolls, Television, Sex Pistols, etc. are much better and more IMPORTANT to punk rock because they were recording music before Green Day were even alive (I didn't research that). However, Green Day is the "punk rock" band of our era and we just have to accept that. _________________ My voodoo master, my machine, baby, will not stand in line...
