Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.4/100, a mean average of 66.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.4.

Some good songs here but some bad ones too. It lumbers along and it's their worst official album since Telepathic Surgery. They bounced back well with King's Mouth and American Head. Best song is the Castle.
Underrated. Similarly to how everyone trashed "The King of Limbs" for prioritising rhythm and texture over melody, they've done so with the misunderstood "Oczy Mlody". By melding their thematically darker records and their more whimsical side , "Mlody" can perhaps best be viewed as a summation of their long and rewarding career so far. It's not immediately satisfying, but let all the different layers soak over you (the more subdued production on here really is outstanding , filled with lots of little quirks) and the record will open up.
A bewitching and wholly misunderstood record from The Flaming Lips who are putting out confounding quality music 30 years into their career. The stellar, offbeat production and transporting lyrics concoct a unique experience akin to falling ever so slowly down the rabbit hole. "Oczy Mlody" is not afraid to take its time in order to let its fantastical journies softly unspool; the ambient pop vibes are very much appreciated and work in the record's favour to create a more satisfying experience rather than being bombarded by sound.
At first glance, the band's lyricism may appear to have gone downhill but simplicity in your words doesn't necessarily equate to lackluster lyrics; they get straight to the point and are as captivating as ever, which could be said for the pretty, pared-down production. Overall it's a brave step forward into the new.. I just wish it resonated with more people, but perhaps it's the best example of a grower, where music lovers will come to appreciate it in a few decades' time.
On a 3rd listen and had high hopes at first. I was like, hmm, this actually has a lot to offer. Then somehow by the 3rd song it started losing momentum and I lost interest soon after that. Lyrically I was interested in the beginning and then the lyrics became less interesting. Musically I was interested, then the music became a bit dull.
Easily their best record in years. A nocturnal, psychedelic odyssey, as moody and unabashedly strange as can be.
I was hoping that after coming back to this album after having substantially expanded my musical taste over the past year would help me appreciate this album more. I appreciate it less. There's very little interesting going on here. It's hard to imagine this same band making In a Priest Driven Ambulance or Clouds Taste Metallic
I cannot understand why this album is rated only 69/100.
It is still a solid album with a lot of good tracks.
I am a little taken aback at those disappointed in this album. I found the overall vibe, production and flow made it the most enjoyable Lips album since Yoshimii. Not for everyone I suppose...
Feels like they've lost purpose. This album is just weird because that's what they do. It doesn't feel like weirdness for a purpose, or even weirdness for weirdness' sake.
Disappointed :/
Seems to be Part 3 in the Embryonic-Terror-Oczy trilogy, continuing the same sound & tone. However, instead of having the same impact as the previous two, it seems unfocused. Not bad, but disappointing.
