Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.3/100, a mean average of 62.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 62.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.9.

The nadir of Phish's career? Haters and fans can agree: Big Boat is either "terrible" or "terrible for Phish". I feel bad criticizing the guy whose brilliance helped bring us Welcome to My Nightmare and The Wall but Bob Ezrin's glossy production does Phish no favors here; it casts unimpressive vocal performances into the spotlight, layers unnecessary horns onto almost everything, and (worst of all) inspires Trey Anastasio to write about something most Phish fans have already declared they don't care about: his feelings.
With Ezrin maintaining a well-documented iron grip on the production and creation of this album (he was literally under the band's direction to do so), Big Boat ends up feeling even more restrained than the last record, Fuego. Here, Phish doesn't feel like they're even allowed to let loose musically and be eccentric as hell for more than 30 seconds at a time (these brief-but-glorious moments can be found in Home, Waking Up Dead, and the fantastic Petrichor) and as a result the entire thing just feels really depressing and un-Phishy, even if everything about the record SOUNDS Phishy to an layman's ear.
