Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.2/100, a mean average of 72.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.2.

This thing sounds great, but other than something about a do-rag, I couldn't tell you anything else about this record. There's just no direction or thrust to this thing.
Risks being very samey, but it's a nice, original style. Just not sure it is good enough for a whole album.
"I Love Louis Cole" is a delight. Mostly because it is unlike the rest, yet it makes sense on the album.
"It Is What It Is is" never really settles on one concept or sound. One song will sound like a jazzy freeform and the next will be laid back funk. This variety helps the album by quickly moving on from the unsuccessful ideas but also prevents getting really invested in the good ones. The raw musical talent is what really holds the album together. Every instrument on here sounds fantastic. The most memorable song is easily the hilarious "Dragonball Durag". A scattered brained album but an enjoyable one.
Cohesive, inventive, entertaining and emotional. The grooves throughout the album are fantastic and the production is great. Thundercat's approach to addressing loss is poignant and very much in line with his character. The saddest parts feel even more affecting because of his humorous angle on things. "I Love Louis Cole" is my favorite song of the year thus far.
I like the dreamier, more experimental tracks. Great groove.
Jazz, soul, funk, disco, electronics. Fusion. All this merges and solidifies along what is probably the most ambitious project of Thundercat. Bass lines take you on a journey of rhythms ranging from dizzying extroversion to dark zigzagging. The Stoic title suggests a work thought under the improvised control of Brunner’s jazztronic feelings.
