Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 73.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

As a sucker for vintage throwback production techniques and sound, this album is something the write home about. Produced by Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys, and it's really showing it's warm analog parts. The album itself to me, is great from a song standpoint. Catchy tunes, with a laid back vibe. This is something that will be on the turntable on repeat this year, I can feel it. -Random 28 yo Male.
Pastiche mock Tudor mansion. Polystyrene Doric columns. Plastic gargoyles on the roof. Concrete front garden and a decked rear. On first listen I was unsure whether it was a comedy Christmas album or not. I don’t understand why anyone would choose to listen to this over the actual music of that era.
70-75/100 (Solid soul album with silky smooth production, the occasional inspired moment, and the laid back falsetto vocals of the titular character)
Well, this was actually quite nice. Nothing revolutionary or even remotely so. But that's not fair as that is clearly not what Frazer or producer Dan Auerbach were going for here. What they were aiming for was a crisp, silky smooth throwback album full of Motown influences dotting every single track. The bass work here sounds consistently fresh. The horns where they are featured sound nice, the vocals while not really astounding are really sexy and assured. There isn't a dud here. But there also aren't any standouts to my ears.
Basically if you love old Motown records and early 70s soul albums by Al Green and others and you wanted to hear them kinda mashed together and presented with modern production clarity, and if you want to just sit back and enjoy some smooth and well-made music, this album is for you. Probably won't be something I return to often or think about a lot but I am still glad I heard it I suppose.
