Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.6/100, a mean average of 61.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 61.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.2.

(Musically this is a really cool artsy post-punk album. The vocalist drags it down a few pegs personally cuz I just tire quite quickly of his very VERY "eccentric" style.)
I like this. From the opening slithery, cool-as-fuck groove in "Drink the Bleach" I was on board with the sound of this band and its eccentric, somewhat roguish brand of artsy post-punk. The active, angular guitars are just really cool, the unserious vibe is fun.
The vocals are irritating as hell. Very very quirky. The lyrics the vocalist is spouting as well are irritating, and these factors are generally a detriment to the general quality of the album in my opinion. I mean at times they are alright, but generally its a little bit of a bummer cuz the music and the rest of the band is just killi ng it a solid 70 percent of the time. And if they had an alright, mildly charming lead singer, this album would be one of my fave post punk albums of the year. As it is, musically this is indeed a nice standout, but as a whole experience it falls short of being a fave.
