Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.7/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

In genre and style-wise this is a mixed bag. Some soul, some alt-rock, some punk or psych sensibilities. That lack of cohesiveness drops some of my positiveness towards it.

It hasn't dated at all well. It's all full of Pastiche and derivative rock and soul. Heavily influenced by the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix it's a kind of journey through a sixties album seen through the eyes of an eighties Lenny Kravitz. So-so.
A mix of blues/hard rock and funk, but wait... a bit of rhythm/blues/and R&B... dude just made music fun again.
Sounding organic and alive this is a thoroughly impressive debut. Conjuring recollections of the paisley-soaked '60s and the lush sounds of '70s soul, all distilled through the multicultural flowering of the late '80s. Much like Prince, he plays nearly every instrument on the record, making this essentially the work of a one-man band. Crafting songs that are catchy with colourful grooves and strong hooks makes the retro-rich "Let Love Rule" a fantastic trip.
"Mr. Cab driver, fuck you, I'm a survivor."
Fantastic debut, Mr Cab driver!
This album blends a lot of influences from rock to soul. It is Lenny's first and Lenny's best. As far as I am concerned it went downhills from here...
