Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.1/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

This was the first Inxs album i bought as i had to hear the song the "the one thing" this is a great album and it was that good it got me into all the other albums they have, this is a great strong sound and lives up to "underneath the colours" which i also highly recommend both those albums have a very similar sound so if you like "Shabooh shoobah " you will love "underneath the colours" the early 80s are the best of Inxs in my opinion.
I got into INXS circa Listen Like Thieves, Kick followed and I played that non stop at the time, it got me to get all their albums and now, this is the one I come back to more than any other, although having listened to them all again I just prefer LLT. Love it, 9/10 - it doesn't seem to date at all.
The band sounds edgy and mysterious here with promise of what was to come. A very consistent album as well.
Don't Change is perhaps the best song they have ever wrote!
They start to figure it out but aren't quite there yet. Don't Change is epic.
this record gives an idea of what was to follow ...
At the age of 14 INXS were my life. Kick was the album that drew me in but this one became my favourite. For me it's their most consistent album and in Don't Change it has their first and finest anthem.
Along with it's successor album The Swing, Shabooh Shoobah is the best work of their pre-American market days. Like The Swing it is a genuinely Australian work as one will notice when listening closely to the instruments. Before Listen Like Thieves INXS had an exoticism about them which was tempered as they made headway in the States. If you want INXS in their own element, start here and The Swing.
This is darker than Kick and stuff. Kinda neat but they got a lot better.
