Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.4/100, a mean average of 68.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

This record is a mixed bag. Not their best and not their worst. Meh.
This is a good entry into th Pumpkins catalogue and was a significant improvement on Zeitgeist
It sounds quite like melon collie at times
Well wort a listen
When I first listened to the first two tracks I said to myself "Boy this is gonna be a long album..." Coz those 2 songs are really horrible. If you survive those 2 songs however, the album range from average to good. Highlights includes One diamond one heart and The Celestials.
Best Pumpkins album since Mellon Collie....I feel it would have been an even stronger album without the last three tracks.
I have to say that I spun this a ton the summer it came out. Sure, it's gonna age like shit, I agree, but I think it stayed fresh longer for me than for anyone else.
Some attempts are made to bring in a classic Pumpkins dreamy shoegaze sound but it comes off as phony and uninspired. Significantly worse than Zeitgeist.
Solid album indeed, some of the best music billy has written in years. Quasar is the opener and fucking rocks like any pumpkin's opener should, whilst Pinwheels is one of the most beautiful songs the band has released in years.
I was a big fan of the Pumpkins in the '90s, growing up with the likes of Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. Everything since from Billy has failed to captivate me like those records. Enter Oceania, Billy's most accomplished songwriting in over fifteen years. Many of the songs are unexpectedly subtle and even subdued. Billy sings and plays with more emotion, as if he really cares about this new incarnation of the band. One of the greatest surprises in '12 alternative rock.
I think it was underestimated..
