Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.5/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

Sounds a bit dated now, nevertheless not a bad album for a listen once in a blue moon. The title track, The Great Sun Jester and Lonely Teardrops are personal favourites. Other BOC albums have aged better, i.e. Cultosaurus Erectus and Fire Of Unknown Origon.

In many ways this feels like a run of the mill BOC record but when taken track by track this includes a lot of highlights. It has aged well with me.

Definitely the weakest of BOCs pre '80s output, but still worth having for most BOC fans. I makes for a nice listen if you're not expecting any classics.

I think Mirrors was a disappointment for many BOC fans. I remember being underwhelmed. Following "Agents Of Fortune" and "Spectres" (and the live album "Some Enchanted Evening"), Mirrors doesn't make a great 1st impression. It is smoother, more polished. And decidedly lacking any iconic songs. No hit to follow "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", or "Godzilla". As Allmusic notes, it broke BOC's string of 5 Gold or Platinum albums in a row.

BUT.... 30+ years later, I have a real affection for this album. Other than the toss-off opener, "Dr. Music", the songs are sold, and well worth the listen.
