I like this album a lot, Vanessa Carlton is a great pianist and a great singer. However, like most albums post 2000 it is derivative so can never be a truly great album. The single 'A Thousand Miles' is a classic.

Good album. Best 10 songs average is 83,0/100 and the album can get good 85/100. Best song is "A thousand miles" 90/100, followed by "Rinse" and "Sway" both 85/100. All other songs in the region of 70-80/100.

To bring up a further analogy, this album is almost as if Walt Disney was to take the terror and beauty in films like M and bring them alive in a technicolor masterpiece like Alice in Wonderland. That's exactly what Vanessa did here, taking the formula of Little Earthquakes and turning it into a kid-friendly escapade into the soul's DNA.
I'm surprised no one else likes this album, great piano-driven pop with a good heavy beat. Paint it Black remake is awesome as is 10,000 Miles.
Ordinary day is one of the most beautiful songs of the last decade.

People often make fun of me for having this so high on my list, but make no mistake: This is, by far, the greatest "Radio Disney" album of all time (and, before I got into real music, I listened to a LOT of those :p).
I know this sounds like it's not saying much, but this album truly is a masterpiece. It sucks you into this gothic world, full of scenes both serene and bleak; looking back, it almost sounds like a girly OK Computer.
If you aren't sure about it, pirate a version of it, and if you end up loving it, I'll be willing to buy you a copy. Not that you should; it's only $6 on Itunes, which is a great deal for the 11 amazing songs on there.
