Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Great album
Shockingly fresh and beautiful album that transcends new age cliches with its timeless production and moving performances by a extremely talented singer.
Iconic new age album from the late eighties. Her voice is so amazing!

This remains Enya's best outing. Orinico Flow was the big hit, but Storms in Africa is equally catchy. For a new age album, there is pretty good diversity in the rest.
The other album I own with a nice piano led opening track is Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness! They change a bit after that. Being serious I think this is the only so called 'New Age' album I own (unless J-M Jarre or Mike Oldfield are classed as that), and only picked it up because it was cheap 2nd hand, although I had, of course, heard various Enya tracks. It's a beautiful album, with a lovely clarity of vocal, and one I'm glad I bought.
My introduction to new age. Beautifully hypnotic and soothing, I still listen to Watermark every once in awhile.

Watermark is an enchanting polyphonic music - an album of rich abstract ballads and intensely epic symphonic classic pop that is hugely influential, particularly on new-age music.
It really is a work of art for such a pretentious genre. New Age usually is nothing but overly artsy bullshit, but this album is wonderful in all the right ways. A favorite for me.
