Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 17% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.1/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.1.

Stunning album - so many great tracks beyond the "hits".

Their 4 top 10 hits are outstanding and the best tracks from this album, The Sun Always Shines on TV(1), Take On Me(2), Hunting High And Low(5) & Train Of Thought(8). There isn't a weak song here so altogether it makes a great debut synth pop/rock album and the first of their three albums that made it to No.2 in the charts.

A decent album but it did make me realise it was the videos that made A-ha great

One banger. Other songs are soo typical mid-eighties pop synth stuff, mostly forgotten

I was really surprised when I listened to this album the very first time in the cold winter of 1985. The popular hits "Take On Me" and "The Sun Always Shines" are pop gold while the rest of the album sounds much more melancholic. But there's not a single bad song on the album and it creates a really great balance between fun and melancholy with interesting instrumentation and good vocals.

One of the best synth pop/rock albums of all time. This sits at the top of my synth pop/rock tree with Alphaville 'Forever Young' and Thomson Twins 'The Gap'. The music here as with the other two albums is much more than pop. You only have to listen to the instrumentation to hear this. As an added bonus I have a mint copy on clear vinyl!

Take on me, and, The sun always shines on TV', are two great eighties pop singles, and although the rest are not quite in the same class as those two, there are some good songs here. The title track and, Train of thought, are the strongest of the other tracks. A good, albeit not great pop album.
